SURI is a Certified B Corporation™
SURI is officially B Corp Certified!
We are immensely proud to meet the highest verified standards for social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability; not to mention joining a growing community of amazing businesses that benefit both people and the planet.
But what is a B Corp?
Put in its very simplest terms, a B Corp uses business as a force for good. All B Corps have passed a rigorous, globally-recognised assessment across a variety of categories. Once certified, B Corps have made a legal commitment to protect people and the planet.
When it comes to changing the world, strength in numbers helps. Thankfully we're in great company. Patagonia, Aesop, Innocent Drinks, Allbirds, Lucky Saint, Tony’s Chocolonely, and many more – over 6500 trailblazing brands are Certified B Corp, and together we believe we can achieve some amazing things.
Why did we choose to become B Corp Certified?
Good question. Alongside Performance and Design – Sustainability is the vital third strand that makes up our DNA at SURI. We started this company because we believed the personal care industry needed to do better.
We've wanted to build a company that puts the planet first, as well as making a positive difference to our customers, employees, and current and future generations.
It made perfect sense to become a B Corp and formally cement these commitments into the future of our company.
How did SURI score?
After an intensive assessment period that lasted nearly 12 months, we achieved an initial score of 88.9 out of 200. For a little context, the median score for regular businesses who complete the assessment is currently 50.9 and you require a minimum score of 80 to receive B Corp status. We scored especially highly across customer stewardship, environmental impact, ethics and transparency.
Find out more details on how we measured over on our official SURI B Corp page.
Each B Corp has to retake the assessment every three years so this is really only the beginning of our journey. We’re fully committed to continuous improvement, transparency and accountability across the board, and we’ve already started to implement plans to improve our score across the business.
So what does this mean for me?
B Corp is much more than 'just' a nice logo on websites or product packaging, it's no easy feat to get certification. So by choosing a B Corp you can be sure of:
Less greenwashing, more transparency. B Corps really do talk the talk and walk the walk, they’re verified by a third party and held to rigorous social and environmental standards.
You're making your voice heard. Every purchase decision you make has power and by choosing SURI and other B Corps you're casting a metaphorical vote for real, positive change.
You’re supporting a thriving, diverse and rapidly growing community. B Corps are committed to ethical practises as well championing diversity, inclusion and giving back to the community.
Just one last thing
Speaking of people and planet, we'd like to take a very quick moment to give a figurative high five and hearty back slap to a very special person – our very own Harry Brannan!
He's worked incredibly hard over the last 12 months to complete our B Corp application, and in doing so he has changed the shape of the company and immortalised himself in the annals of SURI history.
Here's a photo of him last year, looking whimsically at the B Corp web portal as he hits the 'Submit' button.
What a hero, thank you Harry!
